Your dispute ratio decides whether you keep processing.

Falling thresholds

The line keeps dropping toward you.

Visa folded fraud and disputes into one ratio and cut the “excessive” threshold from 2.2% to 1.5% in April 2026. The same sales now sit closer to the limit.

What actually counts

Winning a dispute doesn't lower your ratio.

Fighting a chargeback wins your money back, but the dispute still counts against your ratio either way. A spotless win rate can't save an account that's racking up too many disputes to begin with.

Deflection, not recovery

Stop disputes before they count.

Alerts catch a forming dispute through the networks, so you can refund the customer before it ever becomes a chargeback.

Staying in business

Account survival, not just fees.

Cross a 1.5% VAMP ratio and Visa fines you $8 on every dispute. But your acquirer is on the hook far lower, around 0.5–0.7%, so well before that they start holding your payouts and piling on fees. If the number won't come down, they drop you entirely.

Straight answers on Alerts.

How are Alerts different from Reclaim?

Alerts are proactive: they try to keep a dispute from becoming a finalized chargeback at all. Reclaim is reactive, handling representment after the chargeback has already landed. The distinction matters more than it sounds: a chargeback you fight and win still counts toward your VAMP ratio, so Reclaim protects your revenue but not your standing with the networks. Only deflecting the dispute via Alerts keeps it off the count entirely.

What does an Alerts workflow look like?

When an early dispute signal comes in, Redo matches it to the right Shopify order, payment, and customer. Your team sees the alert with the relevant context and can refund, resolve, or escalate. If the alert is not resolved in time and a chargeback lands, Reclaim picks it up.

Why does the dispute ratio matter more than the dollars?

Because the ratio, not the dollar amount, is what can end your ability to take card payments. Visa's VAMP program combines fraud and non-fraud disputes into one ratio and dropped the 'excessive' merchant threshold from 2.2% to 1.5% in April 2026, with Mastercard monitoring in parallel and the limits trending lower over time. A dispute counts toward that ratio whether or not you later win it, so a strong representment win rate won't save you if the raw count is too high. Sustained 'excessive' status means escalating per-dispute fines, mandatory remediation, and ultimately account termination. Alerts are designed to keep that count, and that ratio, down.

Is Alerts available today?

Alerts is part of the Redo Chargebacks suite and rolls out through demo and partner programs rather than self-serve install. Tell us about your store and we'll follow up about access and the specific signals supported in your stack.
