The best Shopify chargeback apps by job

TL;DR
Prevention, alert deflection, and representment are three different purchases. Here is what each Shopify chargeback app actually charges.
Every app in the Shopify chargeback category leads with "Free to install." All four of the listings I checked say exactly that, and all four then charge on a completely different unit.
That is the actual problem with ranking these products. They are not competing on price, because they are not selling the same thing.
Read this knowing who wrote it. Redo publishes this blog and sells a chargebacks product that competes with every company named below. Every figure here comes from the vendor's own Shopify App Store listing, checked July 20, 2026, so you can go and verify each one rather than take my word for it.
Three jobs, not one ranking
A chargeback has three moments where software can intervene, and they are separated by hours or days.
Prevention happens before the customer ever disputes. Clear billing descriptors, delivery communication, easy self-service cancellation. It reduces how many disputes get started at all.
Deflection happens after the cardholder calls their bank but before the chargeback is formally filed. The networks push an early signal in that window, through Ethoca, Visa RDR, and CDRN. Refund inside it and the chargeback never gets filed.
Representment happens after the chargeback lands and the money is already gone. You assemble evidence and argue the case to the issuer.
An app that does one of these well is not a substitute for an app that does another. The reason this distinction matters commercially is that only deflection keeps a dispute off your Visa VAMP ratio. A dispute counts from the day it is filed whether or not you later win it, which is the argument in winning a chargeback does not fix your dispute ratio.
What the Shopify listings actually publish
Here is what each listing states, quoted as written.
Chargeblast ("Chargeblast: Block Chargebacks"). Free to install, then "Alerts: plans starting at $19/mo," "Deflection: $14 per chargeback stopped," and "Recovery: 15% fee, only on wins." Rated 4.8 across 37 reviews.
Chargeflow ("Chargeflow Prevent Chargebacks"). Free to install, then "Automation: 25% of recovered chargebacks. Prevent: 1,000 free then $0.20/order. Alerts: pay per prevented chargeback." Chargeflow's own pricing page puts the alert figure at $29 per deflected chargeback. Rated 4.8 across 360 reviews.
Disputifier. Free to install with a seven-day risk-free trial, then "CB Fighting: 20% of won back revenue" and "CB Alerts: pay per chargeback prevented." Rated 4.4 across 73 reviews.
Chargeback.io ("Chargeback: Auto Prevention"). Free to install, then "A $15-$29 fee applies per chargeback alert." Alerts only, with no representment product. Rated 4.9 across 79 reviews.
Two things stand out. Every alert price is a range or a starting point rather than a number, and only Chargeblast publishes a full three-line rate card on its listing.
| App | Job(s) | Published pricing | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chargeblast | Alerts, deflection, recovery | $19/mo+ alerts; $14 per deflection; 15% recovery | 4.8 (37) |
| Chargeflow | Prevention, alerts, recovery | 25% recovery; $0.20/order scan; $29 per alert | 4.8 (360) |
| Disputifier | Recovery, alerts | 20% of won-back revenue; alerts per prevented case | 4.4 (73) |
| Chargeback.io | Alerts only | $15 to $29 per alert | 4.9 (79) |
| Redo (Reclaim) | Recovery | $0, no success fee | n/a |

Why the prices do not compare
You cannot rank these by percentage, because the percentages are attached to different denominators and sit alongside meters that run continuously.
A per-order scanning fee bills on your whole volume, disputed or not. At $0.20 per order past the first thousand, a store doing 12,000 orders a month is paying on 11,000 orders to influence a few dozen disputes. A per-alert fee bills on the deflection, and includes the refunded principal you also hand back. A percentage of recovery bills only on wins, but 15% of recovered revenue and 25% of recovered revenue are only comparable if both vendors file the same share of your cases.
That last point is the one buyers skip. A vendor that only files the cases it expects to win posts a better win rate and collects on each one, while the cases it declined recover nothing at all. Ask any vendor, us included, for recovered dollars over total disputed dollars rather than wins over cases fought, because the choice of denominator is where a headline win rate hides its work. I broke the fee structures down further in what chargeback representment really costs.
There is also a zero on this axis, and it is ours. Reclaim, Redo's representment product, has no install fee and no success fee, so the percentages above are worth comparing against 0% rather than only against each other. The deflection and prevention layers are a different story, and I get to that below.
Price every option per dispute kept off your ratio, and separately per dollar actually returned. Those are two different purchases and they should be evaluated as two.
The install checklist, and the one rule about alerts
Before you install anything, do these in order.
- Confirm which processor handles your payments. Shopify Payments, PayPal, and third-party gateways all expose dispute data differently, and an app that integrates with one may not see the others.
- Fix your billing descriptor first. It costs nothing and it is the single highest-leverage prevention change available to a Shopify store.
- Calculate your current VAMP ratio in counts, not dollars, over card-not-present settled transactions.
- Decide which job you are buying before you compare vendors.
- Run only one alert provider.
That last rule is not mine. Chargeback.io states it on its own listing: "This does not work together with alerts from Chargeblast, Disputifier, Chargeflow, or any other provider." Enrolling with two alert vendors on the same network does not double your coverage, and it can create duplicate billing on the same dispute. Pick one, and confirm which networks it actually covers.
The honest part
Redo sells all three of these jobs, and I am not going to pretend that makes me neutral.
What I can be specific about is our own pricing. Reclaim is completely free, and you keep 100% of what is recovered. Alerts, the pre-filing deflection layer, and Resolve, the prevention layer, have no published price and are sold through a demo. So on the axis this article is about, we publish less than Chargeblast does.
Every listing price above is a headline, not a quote, and several of them start at a number rather than being one. Get the full rate card in writing before you commit, including what happens at your volume, and re-check it yourself before signing. Prices in this category change without announcement, and figures dated today are only good for today.
The number that decides which job you are buying
Pull last quarter's disputes and calculate two things: recovered dollars over disputed dollars, and dispute count over settled card-not-present transactions.
If your recovery number is weak, you are shopping for representment and the percentage is what matters. If your ratio is trending toward your acquirer's action threshold, representment will not help you at all, and you are shopping for deflection whatever the per-alert fee turns out to be.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Shopify chargeback app?
It depends on the job. The listings cover three: prevention, alert deflection, and representment. For representment, Redo's Reclaim is free ($0, no success fee). For deflection, Chargeblast, Chargeflow, and Chargeback.io publish per-alert fees. Whatever you choose, run only one alert provider.
Are Shopify chargeback apps free?
They all say 'free to install', but that only means no fixed monthly charge. The money moves later: 15 to 25 percent of recovered revenue, or per-alert and per-scanned-transaction fees. Redo's Reclaim is the exception on recovery, charging $0 with no success fee.
Can I run two chargeback alert apps at once?
No. Chargeback.io states on its own listing that it does not work alongside alerts from Chargeblast, Disputifier, or Chargeflow. Two alert vendors on the same network do not double coverage and can create duplicate billing on one dispute. Pick one and confirm which networks it covers.
Which Shopify chargeback app lowers my dispute ratio?
Only the deflection layer. A dispute counts toward your VAMP ratio from the day it is filed, so representment recovers money without touching the ratio. If the ratio is the problem, buy deflection and prevention rather than recovery.
